ABOUT ELLEN
Tuesday was library day at my elementary school, my favorite day of the week. I enjoyed browsing the shelves and proudly leaving with my three-book limit. Judy Blume was my hero, inspiring me to explore my own thoughts and ideas through writing, be it for school assignments, my journal, or notes passed to friends during class.
My first published piece!
My early adulthood was marked by a passion for politics, leading me to work for Al Gore’s Presidential campaign and in the United States Senate. Law school introduced me to a different style of writing. After a brief stint at a big firm and a detour to pastry school (yes, really!), I returned to work for a Member of Congress. In 2016, deeply affected by the epidemic of gun violence, I made the decision to dedicate myself to the gun violence prevention movement as a volunteer advocate and organizer with Moms Demand Action. The work is both infuriating and inspiring, but we persist. Sometimes I even make appearances on the news!
After a cross-country move and soul-searching for my next chapter, I reignited my passion for writing. I enrolled in classes at The Writer’s Center and was fortunate to join the Novel Year Program, where I found a supportive and talented writing group. This journey has revealed my motive for writing: to delve into personal experiences and emotions, aiding both myself and others in finding purpose and navigating life's challenges, all with a touch of humor and romance.
